Job Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated Specialist Doctor in Developmental Paediatrics to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and ongoing care for children, young people, and families across Surrey.

This newly developed role, created following the recommissioning of Surrey Children’s Community Services, offers a unique opportunity to shape and develop the future of the Developmental Paediatric Service and its pathways.

As part of the Surrey Developmental Paediatric Service, you will work in a collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and development in specialist fields.

You’ll share responsibilities across all aspects of Developmental Paediatrics with experienced colleagues and bring relevant expertise in managing neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism.

Base Location:
Your clinical work will be based in one of Surrey's four quadrants, with flexibility to discuss the exact location based on availability and your preferences. As a flexible-first employer, HCRG Care Group supports agile and hybrid working arrangements.

Main Responsibility

Clinical Care:

• Conduct developmental paediatric clinics, including medical assessments for SEND, school medicals, safeguarding concerns, and Looked After Children, ensuring timely reporting and documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for assessments, treatment, and follow-up care.

Supervision and Training:

• Provide clinical supervision, peer support, and training for trainees, specialty doctors, and other staff.

Governance and Service Development:

• Participate in audits, clinical governance, and service development discussions.
• Contribute to achieving organisational objectives and ensure compliance with infection control, risk management, and confidentiality policies.

Professional Development:

• Engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including internal and external study leave, and participate in annual appraisals covering the full scope of practice.

Operational Duties:

• Cover for colleagues during leave or short-term sickness and assist in management tasks as needed.
• Adhere to organisational policies and professional obligations, ensuring high-quality and safe care delivery.

Job Plan:
The job plan, reviewed annually, will include:

• Direct Clinical Care (DCC): Clinical activities, administration, safeguarding, peer review, and supervision.
• Supporting Professional Activities (SPA): CPD, audits, teaching, and service development.

Managerial Relationships:

• Report to the Director of Developmental Paediatrics and work within a structured operational hierarchy.
• Receive administrative support from dedicated staff with a named contact point.

The Ideal Candidate

• UK recognised medical degree
• Current full GMC registration
• Current work permit (if appropriate)
• Evidence of training in all aspects of child protection assessment (including level 3 training) and health assessments (further training and supervision in assessment of child sexual abuse can be provided in post)
• Knowledge and understanding of Multi- Disciplinary, inter-professional practice to include primary care and social services
• Good evidence of involvement in all aspects of clinical governance
• MSc /diploma in community child health or relevant subject
• MRCPCH/MRCP or equivalent
• Higher specialist training in Developmental Paediatrics
• Trained in standardised autism assessment e.g. use of ADOS, 3Di, ADI.
• Knowledge of Special Educational Needs procedures, health service responsibilities and proposed changes to SEND. Published research or audit Experience of delivering training to other professionals
