The closing date is 19 August 2025
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Diabetes Podiatrist within Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital to further develop and work within a multi-disciplinary foot team (MDfT) service for patients with diabetes in the London Boroughs of Bexley & Greenwich. This post will require working between Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital, Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup, and Queen Elizabeth Greenwich sites.
The aim is to build on existing MDfTs in these Boroughs to develop a South East London Diabetes Foot Network with local MDfTs operating in a hub and spoke model.
Outcomes such as the impact on in-hospital length of stay and reduction in patients undergoing major and minor amputations among the diabetes population in SE London will be used as success indicators.
The successful candidates must have sound knowledge and specialist skills necessary to work in this environment, collaborating with other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated care within a multi-disciplinary model. Advanced specialist knowledge of podiatry and wound care related to high-risk diabetes patients would be beneficial.
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust includes some of the UK's leading hospitals: Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton, and Harefield.
The Podiatry service spans across Guy's and St. Thomas' hospital sites, Queen Mary's Hospital (Sidcup), and Lambeth and community services.
The team comprises 12 podiatrists, 1 nurse, and 2 clinical assistants, with a larger team in Lambeth and Southwark community services.
We are dedicated to multidisciplinary working, with patient referrals from all main specialties. The team supports professional development, staff appraisal, research, and audit, aligned with organizational values.
The service will operate across South East London with a collaborative approach to reduce outcome variation, enable prompt patient repatriation, and provide closer-to-home specialist care. Initially five days a week, it will expand to six days over time.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A disclosure check via the DBS will be required to identify any criminal convictions.
