Job summary

Royal Mail Group is recruiting a part-time Collection & Delivery Driver for the Gateshead area. Working Saturdays only, 05:00–11:00, you will plan routes, collect and deliver parcels, and scan items to keep customers informed.

You must hold a full UK manual driving licence, be reliable, capable of long shifts, and pass background checks. We provide full uniform, paid overtime, pension, and career progression within the UK's largest delivery company.

Qualifications

• Valid UK driving licence with up to 6 penalty points.
• Self-motivated, reliable and able to work unsupervised.
• Comfortable with long drives and delivering parcels up to 30 kg.
• Willing to work paid overtime including Saturdays.
• Excellent communication for customer service.
• Able to pass basic criminal record and background checks.

Responsibilities

A bit about the role

You’ll be responsible for:

• Planning your route each day using route-planning technology.
• Collecting and delivering pouches, parcels, tote boxes to small and large businesses in our portfolio on a designated route.
• Scanning items on and off route to ensure tracking information is available to customers and colleagues.

A bit about you

We’ll provide your full uniform, and all the training and support you’ll need to succeed. Here’s what you’ll need to bring to the role:

• Valid UK driving licence: you hold a full, manual UK licence for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, registered at your current UK address, with no more than 6 penalty points. You’ll need to show this at assessment.
• Self-motivated and reliable: you’re upbeat, can work unsupervised, take pride in your work, and can be relied on to meet tight timelines.
• Multi-drop delivery: while previous experience isn’t essential, you should be comfortable driving for long periods and delivering parcels up to 30kg, throughout the week, even during peak traffic hours. Familiarity with digital route planning tools or a willingness to learn is essential.
• Flexible to service demands: you’re willing to work paid overtime, including Saturdays, and support your colleagues to get deliveries to customers on time.
• Customer service: you have excellent communication skills and are dedicated to delivering outstanding customer service.
• Able to pass background checks: You can prove your Right to Work in the UK and pass basic criminal record and financial security checks.
