Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Student

We are inviting NMC qualified nurses and applicants who will have an NMC pin prior to the commencement of the programme (Part 1, Part 2), to apply for a training contract to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health Practice, with University of Surrey.

This full-time course commences in October 2025 to be completed by October 2026 with University of Surrey.

We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and innovative practitioners to train as Health Visitors, to lead 0-19 Public Health Nursing and deliver great service to our children and families in Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN's) work at individual, community and population level in a preventative social model of health, designed to empower families to take control of and improve their own health and wellbeing.

Main duties of the job

To be a health visitor, you need to be an NMC registered nurse or midwife with

*an interest in children and public health

*to be well organised

*confidence

*to be able demonstrate leadership skills

You will need to be able to cope with potentially challenging situations such as child safeguarding.

You need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team and will be flexible, observant and able to prioritise effectively.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (Adult/Child/MH) or Registered MW on Part 1 or 2 of the NMC Register
  • First level degree in a related subject (2.2 class or above) or equivalent qualification of an approved University for MSc. Students who have a Diploma in Higher Education or a bachelor's degree with a lower grade may be considered using the Advanced Standing process to support their application.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (and access to a car)
