Specialist Clinical Pharmacist: Women and Children

A great opportunity has arisen for an experienced pharmacist to join the women's and children's pharmacy team at The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated clinical pharmacist to join our pharmacy team. You will work with a team of highly specialist pharmacy staff to deliver patient-centred pharmaceutical care to paediatric & women's health patients.

The Women's & Children's pharmacy team are responsible for optimising patient flow, medicines safety and patient outcomes and supporting the service in managing the medicines budget and achieving best value for resource. We do this through working closely with the multidisciplinary clinical teams, service management, and wider pharmacy team and demonstrating the Trust WeCare Values.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will carry out the full range of duties as a Children's Specialist Pharmacist to deliver patient focused, quality care, based at one of the four main hospital sites.

The post holder will be supporting the Service Lead Pharmacist - Women and Children (W&C) Services in leading a team of staff in the delivery of high quality clinical pharmacy services to the speciality based at Royal London Hospital.

Please note: When calculating the basic salary for sponsorship, HCAS (High Cost Area Supplement) is not included for non-medical roles. This ensures fairness and consistency within our organisation, as some of our sites fall under inner HCAS, while others are classified as outer HCAS.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts,
  • Experience in supervising and organising staff and work
  • Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre- registration / basic grade Pharmacist
  • Experience in provision of a clinical pharmacy service to paediatrics and neonates
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Able to complete documentation accurately with attention to detail
  • Able to accurately follow written procedures under pressure
  • Demonstrates numeracy skills and ability to perform accurate, complex calculations
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise self, and others
  • Able to work unsupervised and under pressure
  • IT literate; able to use Microsoft office with intermediate IT skills including, accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programmes
  • Demonstrates effective customer service skills

Knowledge
  • Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
  • Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
  • Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs of women's and children's service patients
  • An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to women's and children's service
  • Understanding of stock control systems
  • Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
  • Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives
  • Knowledge of the medical management of complex paediatric, neonatal and critical care patients
Qualifications
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Specialist postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Specialist Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent knowledge and experience
