Specialist Clinical Pharmacist - Critical Care and Nutrition

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced pharmacist to join our expanding critical care team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated professional, with a desire to thrive and learn in a clinically focused team. Applicants should have excellent communication and organisational skills, an ability to prioritise, plan and direct workload and have experience of supporting and developing colleagues.

Our Pharmacy is a friendly, progressive department where clinical services are led by our Consultant Pharmacists and provided in a supportive team environment. Our team is a respected integral part of the wider multidisciplinary team.

Our modern service embraces technology with electronic prescribing, automated dispensaries and laptops for mobile working and point of care information access.

You will have the opportunity to teach/mentor PG diploma students, and will be encouraged to pursue further education and/or research interests.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will provide expert clinical pharmacy services to the critical care departments across site. Key elements of the post will include:

  • personal delivery of expert clinical pharmacy to critical care patients
  • personal delivery of expert clinical pharmacy to patients under the care of infectious disease specialists
  • to support maintenance and development of the Philips (ICCA) electronic prescribing system
  • personal delivery of expert clinical pharmacy to patients requiring parenteral nutrition
  • provision of clinical supervision and mentorship to other pharmacists and pharmacy staff
  • provision of expert advice at policy and individual patient care levels
  • provision of pharmaceutical advice to the Department of Critical Care

Applicants should have a post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy (or equivalent experience), and experience of clinical pharmacy including in critical care and parenteral nutrition.

  • Clinical Pharmacy experience to include practicing at specialist level (level 2 equivalent)

  • Ability to plan effective learning experiences for others and of assessing the performance and learning needs of others
  • Experience of training and formal teaching (e.g. delivery of tutorials as part of a clinical diploma programme).
  • Experience of managing/leading a team of pharmacists and technicians in a clinical context
  • Provision of professional advice at Directorate Management Team level (or equivalent)
  • Practice at specialist/expert level (level 2/3 equivalent) managing critically ill patients, TPN patients and patient on complex antimicrobial regimens
  • Experience of managing clinical trials and/or involvement in practice research
Qualifications & Training
  • MPharm 4 year pharmacy degree or previously accredited BPharm (or BSc [Pharm])
  • Successfully completed pre-registration year and registration examination leading to Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), (or other accredited route to membership for non-UK trained pharmacist)
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience
  • Record of CPD covering a range of relevant post qualification education and experience
  • Post-graduate Master\'s degree in clinical pharmacy
  • Non-medical prescribing
