Job Overview
This job is for a Clinical Fellow in Respiratory to provide care for patients for designated Consultant/team at ward level, and receiving support/ training from both Senior trainees and Consultant staff.
It provides excellent experience in respiratory and general medicine and prepares trainees for applications for specialist training.
Training and supervision in respiratory medicine (bronchoscopy, EBUS, pleural procedures, thoracoscopy, NIV (both inpatient and outpatient), Cystic Fibrosis, Lung Cancer, TB, ILD) as per the requirements and skills of the individual, and the needs of the department.

Main duties of the job
Registrars are offered specialty training including sleep and ventilation, Cystic Fibrosis, Pleural disease and intervention, endoscopic bronchial ultrasound (EBUS), TB and ILD. There are 5 resident doctors on the ward at any one time. There is a daily consultant led board round, and twice weekly consultant ward rounds. The specific job plans may change but exposure and experience in all the previously mentioned subspecialties will still be possible.
On call
Registrars contribute to the medical registrar on call rota which includes normal working days, on call days, weekend days and nights. The nights shifts are in blocks of 3 or 4 nights followed by compensatory rest days. The rota is EWTD and new contract compliant. There are medical consultants on site doing post take ward rounds for the general medical patients from 08.00 to 21.00 each day. A team of SHO grades, FY1s and Night Nurse Practitioners are present overnight.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The respiratory department is a supportive and pro-active group of consultants. There are 11 respiratory consultants, 2 registrars, 8 SHOs and 4 FY1s. There are also specialist nurses in CF, COPD, TB, ILD and Lung Cancer.
Respiratory medicine looks after medical inpatients - General Respiratory and General Medical, as well as cystic fibrosis inpatients.
The respiratory department also run the hospital’s medical High Dependency Unit (MADU) and has close links with Intensive Care. Patients on MADU include after a range of acutely unwell patients including those requiring non-invasive ventilator support.

Procedures
- 1 bronchoscopy list per week
- 1 EBUS list per week
- Medical Thoracoscopy
- 3 Pleural lists per week using US guidance including long term tunnelled pleural catheters.
We are seeking a third respiratory registrar to join this dynamic team.
Education is very important at Frimley and every trainee has an Educational and Clinical Supervisor to support them during their time at Frimley Park Hospital. As a trainee you will have access to a portfolio and will be given support over the year to build your CV. Teaching sessions are run throughout the week including X-Ray meeting, Respiratory Teaching and Grand Round.

- Full GMC with Licence to practice
- MBBCH or equivalent Degree + Paces

- 1 year NHS experience at ST3 level
- Experience of on call duties
