A leading environmental agency is seeking a Specialist in Chemical Hazard Evaluation to assess the environmental risks of chemicals under UK regulations. The role involves evaluating chemical dossiers, ensuring compliance with REACH and CLP, and contributing to research initiatives. We are recruiting a regulatory scientist to assess the environmental hazard and risk of industrial and consumer chemicals under the UK REACH and CLP Regulations.
Working in our Chemicals Assessment Unit (CAU), you will:
Responding to incidents is integral to our work. You will be expected to participate in incident roles, with training provided, and may receive additional compensation for this.
The team is part of the Research division within the Chief Scientist’s Group, with dispersed office locations. We support HSE and UK Government on environmental hazards of chemicals, proposing risk management actions and collaborating internationally.
You should have a degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as chemistry, biology, or environmental science, and at least two years of experience assessing environmental effects or fate of chemicals, either nationally or internationally.
You must be capable of analyzing complex data, following guidance, and communicating findings effectively. Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills are essential. Please demonstrate relevant experience in environmental hazard and risk assessment, particularly related to REACH and CLP, in your responses to competency questions.
The role offers flexible/hybrid working arrangements, with some travel required. Full training for incident response roles will be provided. For more details, review the Candidate/Additional Information Pack. Interviews are scheduled via MS Teams, including possible technical exercises.
