Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital is seeking a Specialist Cardiac Physiologist to join the Cardiac Unit on a permanent basis. You will perform a broad range of cardiac diagnostic tests and support device monitoring, reporting results to guide clinical decisions.

The role requires a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent), RCCP/AHCS registration, BHRS/IBHRE accreditation, and at least two years of specialist experience. Salary up to £56,515 and a 37.5 hour week are on offer.

• BHRS/IBHRE Devices Accreditation required.
• At least two years’ specialist level experience post accreditation.

Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of cardiac diagnostic tests in the cath lab as part of the MDT, including diagnostic coronary angiography, PCI, right heart catheterisation, and PFO/ASD closures.
• Monitor ECG and pressure tracings, reporting abnormalities to the team.
• Lead cardiac device follow-up clinics and assess device function and longevity.
• Ensure stock and equipment are available for implantation procedures.
• Lead audits and contribute to departmental policy development.

They will be responsible for interpreting results, delivering precise, clinically relevant reports to support medical decision-making whilst supporting other healthcare professionals whilst fostering clinical excellence across the team.Main duties of the jobPerform a broad range of procedures in the cardiac cath lab as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) including: diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, right heart catheterisation, and PFO/ASD closures. Monitoring ECG and pressure tracings throughout, promptly reporting any abnormalities/significant changes to the wider team.Support cardiac device implants monitoring ECG and intra-cardiac signals to ensure accurate lead placement, promptly reporting any abnormalities/significant changes.Lead cardiac device follow-up clinics in line with BHRS guidelines, clinical governance standards, and local standard operating procedure. Assess device function, battery status, make clinically appropriate programming changes optimising device performance and battery longevity and maintain accurate records to support audit, service improvement, and governance.Ensure that appropriate Cardiac Device stock is available for implantation procedures.Deliver high-quality testing, interpreting, analysis and reporting where appropriate of all non-invasive cardiology tests including: ECG’s, Ambulatory ECG’s, Ambulatory BP’s, Exercise Tolerance Tests with all non-invasive testing being performed and reported in accordance to national guidelines and local standard operating procedures.Timely and accurate Ambulatory ECG analysis and reporting accounts for a significant proportion of daily workload.Provide expert clinical leadership and specialist technical guidance in the implantation and follow-up of cardiac devices, serving the department and wider hospital.Act as a clinical role model, promoting evidence-based best practice to enhance care quality for outpatients, inpatients, and surgical patients.Demonstrate advanced communication skills to support patients and families and foster effective multidisciplinary collaboration.Maintain and advance clinical standards in CRM through ongoing training, and CPD.Maintaining clear communication with the Clinical HOD and monitoring daily service delivery, recommending improvements and addressing clinical concerns promptly.Oversee stock control procedures, including standing orders, maintenance contracts, and capital equipment procurement, ensuring value and service quality.Contribute to the review and development of departmental and hospital-wide policies.Lead clinical audits identifying trends and implementing service improvements; participate in wider Nuffield audit programmes.Provide training, mentorship, and competency assessments for junior staff and other healthcare professionals.Uphold departmental quality systems, including medical device management and maintenance, and respond effectively to cardiology-specific MDAs/MHRAs.Contribute to the delivery of departmental workloads and deputise for the HOD during periods of absence.Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital.Located in central Leeds, our purpose-built hospital delivers exceptional care across complex surgeries—including cardiac, spinal, and weight loss—supported by a Level 3 critical care unit.
