Job description

Job summary: We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our friendly team for a temporary one year post to cover maternity leave.

The successful applicant will have a practitioner role within the department, delivering brachytherapy, carrying out QC and generating treatment plans for prostate, gynaecological and skin brachytherapy.

It is a role with plenty of variety and we work together with the wider team of clinical scientists, clinical oncologists, and theatre/nursing staff to deliver world class brachytherapy.

The successful applicant must be state registered (Clinical technologist (VRCT)/therapy radiographer (HCPC)).

Main duties of the job

Treatment of patients undergoing brachytherapy using the High Dose Rate Afterloader including provision of associated patient care.

Attending brachytherapy insertions in the brachytherapy theatre, including set up, documentation, quality control and cleaning of radiotherapy medical devices.

Treatment planning for brachytherapy-contouring organs at risk, applicator reconstruction, dose optimisation.

Undertaking routine quality control of radiotherapy equipment and medical devices-this is a significant part of the role.

Person Specification

Qualifications: Degree in Therapy Radiography/clinical technology, HCPC registered therapy radiographer or on the VRCT.

  • Essential: Competencies and skills in a range of settings appropriate to post registration experience as a band 5 radiographer or clinical technologist, Experience of working with a quality system.
  • Desirable: Brachytherapy experience, Attendance at brachytherapy courses/conferences
