PATHOLOGY
Department of Infection - Virology
Specialist Biomedical Scientist – Band 6 - permanent contract.
The purpose of the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL) is to provide patients with a high-quality, cost-effective service, and ensure the longer-term sustainability of NHS pathology services in east and south east London.
We are an organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Set up as an arms-length organisation, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, we have our own board and governance, with each of the three trusts having an equal voice and vote in the running of the Pathology Partnership. One of the largest pathology providers in the NHS, the Pathology Partnership brings together the strengths of teams from each of the three trusts into a single organisation, dedicated to the provision of pathology.
A complex transformation programme has helped us to become a single, integrated pathology network. The aspired ‘hub and spoke’ operating model is centred at The Royal London Hospital (RLH) and connected to essential service laboratories located at partnered hospitals.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who will rise to the challenges presented from our diverse patient base, and who will enjoy opportunities to get involved in training, quality, validation, and to broaden their experience.
You must be an experienced specialist biomedical scientist, with good scientific and technical understanding of the virology diagnostic laboratory. You will have a comprehensive understanding of quality management systems for the provision of high-quality service standards including experience of quality control and quality assurance systems, laboratory audit and root cause analysis. You would have experience of assay verification and SOP review.
The ideal candidate would have experience of staff training & competency assessment, equipment and process troubleshooting.
The successful candidate must hold an accredited honours degree in Biomedical Science, have HCPC registration and have completed an IBMS Specialist Diploma in Virology for appointment to band 6. Applicants with significant biomedical scientist experience, in virology, but without the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Virology (or equivalent) may also be considered for appointment at band 5.
