We are seeking a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist with experience in Biochemistry; Band 5 candidates with relevant experience may also apply.

Main duties of the job

The Biochemistry Directorate operates across four sites, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including the largest fully automated Roche tracking system in Europe. The department offers advanced analytical techniques such as Mass Spectrometry, HPLC, RIA, ELISA, and manual assays. The post holder will provide scientific services to support clinical diagnosis, participate in a 24/7 rota, and perform complex analytical procedures in line with ISO 15189 standards. Candidates should have post-registration Biochemistry experience and IBMS specialist portfolio or equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Post-registration speciality training as per IBMS guidelines or equivalent
  • Extensive post-registration experience in Biochemistry as a BMS Practitioner (Band 5)
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of laboratory methods
  • Understanding of physiology, pathology, and scientific principles in Clinical Biochemistry
  • Experience with automated and semi-automated equipment
  • Ability to contribute to laboratory procedure improvements
  • Knowledge of quality systems, ISO/UKAS standards
  • Lab IT skills and familiarity with IT programmes like Word and Excel
Qualifications and Knowledge
