Job overview

The post holder will lead on the delivery of the maternity recruitment and retention strategy and act as an expert on recruitment and best practice to deliver on the programmes of work related to Midwifery workforce, recruitment and retention.

They will work closely with Midwifery Teams, working in partnership with Human Resource colleagues, the Divisional Directors of Nursing, Director of Midwifery, Corporate Nursing Quality, Lead Nurse for Internationally Educated Nurses & Midwives and Pastoral Care, Workforce Matron and HR. The post holder will lead on projects to develop new roles, innovative ways of working, and programmes to support the recruitment and retention of staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Practice Development and Professional Midwifery Advocates team, to enhance experience of work and promote retention in the maternity workforce for preceptorship, early career and late career midwives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or level 7 equivalent or equivalent experience or working towards
  • Leadership/management qualification or working towards, or where not held, willingness to undertake on appointment
  • Teaching and assessing in practice qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Current NMC Registered Nurse or Midwife

Experience

  • Proven knowledge of the specialist area of managing recruitment and developing workforce plans acquired through training or experience.
  • Understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and implications on engagement.
  • Formal and informal teaching experience
  • Able to build influential working relationships at all levels within and outside the organisation when considering recruitment and retention
  • Considerable experience of recruitment and partnership working
  • Experience of conflict management
  • Management experience and leading a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of working with e-rostering and safe care
  • Knowledge of National Legislation around Safe Staffing
  • Experience managing international attraction campaigns within a high-volume setting
  • Resourcing/recruitment market knowledge
  • Experience in an acute healthcare setting

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of national maternity agenda and current issues relating to the NHS
  • Awareness of key principles of risk management processes
  • Knowledge of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) used within maternity
  • Awareness of Local Targets and Performance Dashboard
  • A knowledgeable clinician with the ability to apply evidence to practice
  • Knowledge of workforce planning, modelling and data mining tools and methodologies
  • Knowledge of overseas resourcing and recruitment services and practices with experience in leading successful recruitment and retention programmes
