Job description

The Microbiology Department is seeking registered Biomedical Scientists to perform a comprehensive range of analyses and investigations. The successful applicant will interpret results, provide advice and guidance to service users, and maintain complex analytical equipment in optimal condition. Effective interpersonal skills are essential for liaising with service users and ensuring the best patient care.

The candidate will develop competence and confidence to perform procedures with minimal supervision and will participate in 24/7 working shifts. Consideration will also be given to applicants under Annex 21.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Applying specialist knowledge across various procedures, authorising test results, and initiating further tests as needed.
  2. Checking, validating, and authorising colleagues' work.
  3. Ensuring the validity and reliability of analytical processes through internal quality control and external quality assessments.
  4. Managing external QA program results.
  5. Handling materials and equipment such as microscopes and pipettes for accurate results.
  6. Setting up, checking, and troubleshooting instrumentation.
  7. Maintaining logs for instruments, QC, and reagents, and utilizing resources efficiently.
  8. Monitoring and reacting to alarms on fridges, freezers, and incubators.
