South West London Pathology is an award winning pathology partnership between four Hospital Trusts – St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust – designed to provide an integrated, high quality pathology service for hospitals and GPs across South West London, by bringing together the best of each Trust’s service and providing them within a single organisation.

About SWLP and role details

The Microbiology department at St George’s is deploying a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic, friendly team. The post holder will be deployed in Microbiology at the St George’s site. The department offers the latest equipment in the Microbiology field including three Kiestra lines, MALDI-ToF technology, Uri-system, Liaison XLs, EntericBio, BD FX, MGIT and Phoenix, an automated Serology track system and a specialised Molecular service including high throughput analysers. The department also offers an extensive screening program for latent TB for the London region.

Applicants should have good knowledge and experience in Microbiology and demonstrate excellent problem solving skills. The post requires participation in a 24/7 shift system including weekends, nights, late shifts and bank holidays as part of hours.

Responsibilities
  • Provides specialist technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.
  • Contributes to providing a professional clinical laboratory service, working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department.
  • Able to perform all core scientific and interpretive work, which corresponds to the training and qualifications of a Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • To assist in training and supervising staff and deputising for the Advanced Biomedical Scientist when necessary.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Registered Biomedical Scientist with good knowledge and experience in Microbiology.
  • Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills.
  • Willingness to work a 24/7 shift system including weekends, nights, late shifts and bank holidays.
