This post is for a permanent part-time position to support the Special Coagulation service. The post holder will enjoy supporting the development and training of registered BMS and other colleagues and play an active role in maintaining high standards of quality management, as well as taking a lead role in a specific responsibility commensurate with a band 6 role. The post holder will be highly skilled in the use of the latest techniques and complex instrumentation alongside more traditional manual methods of investigation. The individual will be expected to apply professional judgement and utilise specialist skills and knowledge to provide a timely result service to clinicians. The individual will be committed to formally maintaining their skills and knowledge by appropriate training and self-education.

We are committed to the training and development of our staff, and actively encourage staff to develop their careers, IBMS Certificates and Diplomas, external courses and management qualifications. The department is accredited as a training laboratory by the IBMS for both registration and specialist portfolios.

To perform the specialist thrombotic and lupus analytical investigations of the department, as directed by senior staff, including clotting, chromogenic, ELISA, flow cytometry and molecular based assays. To analyse and monitor internal quality control and bring to the attention of senior staff any poor performance. To complete analysis for external quality assurance surveys and partake in department performance review meetings.

To participate in and maintain the application of agreed standard operating procedures (SOP’s). Troubleshoot analytical issues as appropriate and bring any problems to the attention of senior staff. Participate in the department’s quality management procedures, including audit, document control and non-conformance investigation. Be active in maintaining and recording the laboratory’s Health & Safety documentation.
