Lab-Based – Kidlington, Oxford, UK (OX5 ILH)

This role is fully on-site in our Oxford lab.


Shifts That Work Around You

Choose to work 3 4 or 5 days a week shift rota
Early or late shifts available to suit your schedule
7.5 hours (excluding 1-hour lunch)
Weekly rota managed by your Line Manager

About the Role

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist at Diagnexia, you’ll be at the heart of our fully digital, fast-paced histopathology lab — working across multiple sections including specimen reception, dissection (cut-up), IHC, special stains, QC and beyond.
You’ll get to use your dissection skills and technical know-how to prepare surgical samples that support the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease.
You’ll support senior scientists and team leads, supervise key processes, provide expert advice, and help train and mentor junior colleagues — all while keeping patient care and diagnostic excellence front and centre.

Sample Collection & Dissection

Handle biological samples with precision — from reception and grossing through to processing, embedding, microtomy, staining and digitisation
Keep detailed records of all specimen handling steps

Quality & Compliance

Uphold high lab standards through strict QC and QA practices
Troubleshoot technical issues and support audit readiness
Work to UKAS 15189:2022 and NEQAS standards

Method Development & R&D

Develop, test and validate new histological methods
Contribute to research projects including AI-driven diagnostics

Team Support & Training

Share your expertise in dissection and sample prep
Mentor and guide support staff and less experienced BMS colleagues
Collaborate closely with pathologists and healthcare teams

Lab Operations & Safety

Stay current across all lab areas and equipment
Maintain accurate documentation, reports, and lab records
Monitor reagent stocks and perform routine equipment maintenance
Ensure lab safety and data protection at all times

Ongoing Learning & Development

Commit to continuous professional development
Stay registered with the HCPC and up-to-date with ISMS, GDPR, GLP and other internal training requirements

What You’ll Bring

HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
IBMS Specialist Portfolio or MSc in Biomedical Science
2+ years’ experience in UKAS-accredited histology labs
Proven dissection (cut-up) experience with up-to-date CPD
Strong knowledge of lab equipment and troubleshooting
Experience with lab method validation and quality control
Confident using lab information systems and data tools
Clear communicator and natural team collaborator
