University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Coagulation section within Haematology, Blood Sciences at Dorset Pathology Hub.

Based at the Dorset Pathology Hub at Royal Bournemouth Hospital with occasional support at Poole Hospital, you will perform and interpret coagulation investigations, authorise results, and help maintain UKAS ISO 15189 standards.

Qualifications

Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Coagulation section within Haematology, Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset. We are seeking a professional, reliable and proactive individual to become part of our friendly, high-performing team. This role offers comprehensive training and excellent development opportunities for candidates looking to advance their career within a progressive and expanding service.

Based primarily at the Dorset Pathology Hub at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with occasional support at Poole Hospital, you will join a modern, UKAS-accredited and IBMS-approved training laboratory providing a comprehensive diagnostic service across Dorset.

As an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, you will support the clinical haemophilia, haemostasis and thrombosis service, performing and interpreting a wide range of specialised coagulation investigations. Using advanced analytical equipment and specialist knowledge, you will contribute to the diagnosis and management of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders, authorise results in line with agreed protocols, and help ensure the delivery of a high-quality, efficient diagnostic service. You will also play an active role in maintaining compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 standards and supporting continuous service improvement.

The ideal candidate will have a BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent, be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a BMS, have completed the IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Haematology and Transfusion) or have equivalent, proven experience at Band 6 level in Haematology/ Coagulation. Evidence of Continual Professional Development (CPD) will be expected to be demonstrated at interview.

If a role or servicerelocatesas part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
