Job description

Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Point of Care Testing

Department: Pathology - Blood Science (POCT)

Band 6: £38,682 - £46,580 per annum pro rata

Full-time: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The Point Of Care Testing (POCT) Team, part of the Pathology Department at MKUH, is seeking two engaging and enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientists to support the service provided to wards and other clinical areas throughout the Trust, including community-based projects. The key responsibilities include:

  1. Managing over 200 POCT devices across the Trust, ensuring regular maintenance, servicing, and repairs.
  2. Conducting control checks (IQC and EQA) and reviewing results.
  3. Providing user training to clinical staff on device use for patient testing.
  4. Performing regular audits on POCT services and equipment.
  5. Supporting POCT in meeting ISO 15189 standards.

One of the positions will be a fixed-term contract for 6 months, primarily to facilitate the verification and implementation of POCT equipment for community use and the Trust’s virtual ward team.
