Job description

Job Title: Band 6 Biomedical Scientist - Haematology

The Blood Sciences Department at Birmingham Children's Hospital is seeking a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in the haematology department. Candidates must have their Specialist IBMS Portfolio; applications from HCPC-registered individuals with relevant UK Haematology laboratory experience and post-registration experience in a Haematology/Blood Transfusion department are encouraged.

Our department provides a 24/7 service, performing a wide range of paediatric investigations for children with leukaemia and bleeding disorders, supporting regional services in paediatric medicine and surgery. The work involves a busy Emergency Department, paediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac and Liver surgery, and a Bone Marrow Transplant centre. The department fosters career development and offers a stimulating work environment.

The successful candidate will have prior experience in Haematology, maintain professional standards, and stay updated with current practices in Haematology and Transfusion Sciences. The role involves rotating through Diagnostic Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Specialist Haemostasis sections, contributing to high-quality diagnostic services.

Participation in the 24/7 out-of-hours service is required, including rotation across Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Specialist Coagulation, including Flow Cytometry.
