Job Description:

Specialist Applications Associate

We are currently looking for individuals in the following specialties:

  • Cardiology
  • Geriatrics
  • Paediatric sub-specialties
  • Pathology (particularly medical microbiology and medical virology)
  • Psychiatry (particularly smaller specialties)

£325 per evaluation + £162.50 for training & induction days

An opportunity has arisen for successful applicants to undertake work completing Portfolio (formerly CESR) evaluations in the above specialties by becoming a GMC Specialist Applications Associate.

If you’re a practising consultant within these specialties this respected role in healthcare regulation offers you the opportunity to make a major impact on maintaining the integrity of the specialist register. Enjoying the flexibility to meet your current commitments, you’ll help increase accessibility of the specialist register.

When a doctor has not completed specialist training in the UK, but believe they have the knowledge, skills and experience to enter the specialist register, they may apply on the basis of demonstrating the CCT curriculum outcomes in another way. You’ll assess the portfolio of evidence they provide to demonstrate this, and write a report, giving your recommendation of whether they should be entered on to the specialist register or not.

As a credible authority in your field, you are fully registered with a current licence to practice and specialist registration having had patient contact in the last two years.

You must be on the specialist register. A good analytical mind is essential, as you’ll assess lots of information about an individual’s abilities against the requirements of the CCT curriculum outcomes in your specialty.

We appreciate that you currently have commitments outside of the GMC and want to remain at the forefront of your field. However, we’ll expect you to write a minimum of five evaluations a year and attend one training day.

The role will generally be homeworking but might require attendance in our London or Manchester office on occasion.

If your skills and experience meet the requirements for this role, we will contact you to arrange a suitable date and time for a virtual interview. Interviews will be held virtually via MS Teams periodically throughout the year.
