Specialised Respiratory Physiologist/Respiratory Clinical Scientist

Do you want to help develop and provide respiratory services, encompassing the delivery of a breathlessness pathway? We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Band 7 respiratory physiologist/clinical scientist. We have opportunities to work at sites in York or Selby. The successful candidate will rotate between York Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre's.

Our candidate will have a BSc Hons in Clinical Physiology or equivalent, ARTP accreditation and experience performing a wide variety of pulmonary function investigations. Experience in CPET is also desirable. Our department is committed to continuing professional development, with many staff undertaking post graduate and professional qualifications.

This role would be ideal for a physiologist looking to take the next step in their career, or who is already established at this level but would like a new challenge and to work in the community. We require the successful candidate to be confident in working independently and autonomously.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to be able to perform basic and advanced pulmonary function tests unsupervised, these should include:

  • Assessment of bronchodilator response
  • Fitness to fly assessments
  • Arterial blood gas punctures, and analysis
  • Hyper-reactivity (using mannitol)
  • Cardio-pulmonary exercise testing

At this level you will also be expected to participate in aspects of service management, including quality assurance, service planning, workforce planning, appraisal, and student supervision.

Qualifications
  • BSc in Respiratory Physiology and/or MSc in Respiratory Science
  • ARTP Part I and II or equivalent
  • Teaching or training skills
Experience
  • Appropriate post qualification experience and familiarity with the range of basic and advanced Respiratory investigations
  • Supervisory experience
  • Training in specialist aspects of the role, i.e CPET
