Job summary

A recruitment firm for educational roles is seeking a dedicated Special School Welfare Assistant to join a SEN specialist secondary school in Emsworth. In this role, you will ensure students feel safe and supported, providing essential first aid and pastoral care. Ideal candidates will have GCSE qualifications and experience in first aid or pupil welfare. This position is Monday to Friday, 08:30am – 15:00pm, with a salary range of £17 to £18 per hour.

Qualifications

  • GCSE qualifications in English and Maths, minimum of a grade 4/C (or equivalent).
  • Previous Welfare or First Aid experience is desirable.
  • Willing to embrace ongoing training and development.

Job Description:

Prospero Teaching are looking for a caring and dedicated Welfare Assistant to join our client SEN specialist secondary school in Emsworth.

This school provides an inclusive and nurturing environment for children with complex learning needs, including Autistic Spectrum Conditions. It serves pupils from Years 7 to 11 (KS3 and KS4), working closely with families and external agencies to shape the best possible future for each student.

Your role will be key in ensuring students feel safe, supported, and cared for every day. As a Welfare Assistant, you’ll play an essential part in first aid support and pastoral care. While experience in first aid or pupil welfare is desirable, your ability to connect with young people, build trust, and offer a reassuring presence is what truly matters. At times, you may also assist in classrooms, contributing to the school’s positive and inclusive learning environment.

This role will be Monday to Friday, 08:30am – 15:00pm with extended hours on a Wednesday for staff training.

Salary between £17, – £18,

Experience, Training and Qualifications required for the role:

  • If you have GCSE qualifications in English and Maths, minimum of a grade 4/C (or equivalent)
  • Possess excellent communication skills
  • Will embrace our highly supportive and professional culture
  • Previous Welfare or First Aid experience
  • You wish to develop their skills and embrace ongoing training and development

To be eligible for this role you must:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
