Job description

Special Operations Strength and Conditioning Specialist

This role supports Special Operations Forces personnel at Mildenhall through the design, delivery, evaluation, and documentation of strength and conditioning programmes. The post holder is expected to establish effective physical training protocols, support safe return to training following injury, coordinate with human performance staff, provide exercise instruction and guidance, contribute to standard operating procedures, maintain records, support education activity, and use relevant software and technologies as required by the programme. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in an exercise science, health science, or physical education-related discipline, current CSCS or SCCC certification, at least five years of relevant experience, and U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status with DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain it.

This role appears to align with IQF Level 6, as it involves designing, administering, evaluating, and documenting strength and conditioning protocols for Special Operations Forces personnel. The role includes long- and short-range physical performance planning, coordination with human performance staff, return-to-training support, instruction in physical training methods, record keeping, and contribution to facility procedures and training protocols. Although the role operates under the supervision of a Human Performance Programme Manager or Coordinator, the required experience, tactical population, planning responsibility, and requirement for independent professional competence indicate Level 6 scientific practitioner capability rather than a defined-scope Level 4 role.

Salary and Role Alignment

Red. The advertised salary appears below the level expected for the stated role scope and essential requirements. The role appears to require Level 6 professional capability, including a relevant bachelor’s degree, CSCS or SCCC certification, at least five years of relevant experience, tactical population expertise, programme design and evaluation, return-to-training coordination, work with Special Operations personnel, and security clearance requirements.
Although €45,000 may be acceptable for some general S&C practitioner roles, it appears low for a full-time Special Operations human performance role requiring substantial experience, specialist competence, and work within a military performance environment.
IUSCA recommended minimum salary: £50,000 per year, or local currency equivalent.
This minimum recommendation reflects the Level 6 classification, the specialist tactical setting, the experience requirement, the complexity of the population, and the additional professional demands associated with Special Operations performance support. A higher salary may be appropriate if the role includes substantial independent programme ownership, deployment-related duties, unsociable hours, or leadership of other practitioners.

This role has been classified by IUSCA based on publicly available information. The classification is intended to support professional transparency and help practitioners and employers understand the relationship between role scope, responsibility, autonomy, qualification expectations, and salary alignment.
