Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Oldham. This full-time, long-term role involves providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with additional needs, including two non-verbal students, to help them engage and progress.

You will work with teachers and SEN staff to implement tailored learning plans, manage behaviour calmly, and foster social, emotional, and academic development in a structured classroom.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with special educational needs and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Confidence working with non-verbal pupils and knowledge of alternative communication methods such as PECS or Makaton (desirable).
  • Strong behaviour management skills with a calm and consistent approach.
  • Compassionate, resilient and adaptable attitude.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Job Title: Special Needs Teaching Assistant (Full-Time)
Location: Oldham
Contract Type: Full-Time, Long-Term
Salary: £95-£100 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a supportive and inclusive school in Oldham that is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support four pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour, including two non-verbal students.


This is a full-time, long-term role, with the goal of gradually increasing pupils' engagement and helping transition them from part-time to full-time education.


About the Role


  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of additional needs

  • Assist in delivering tailored learning and behaviour support strategies

  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to implement personalised learning plans

  • Help maintain a structured, calm, and supportive classroom environment

  • Encourage pupils' social, emotional, and academic development
