Job description

Job main duties:

  • To ensure the very highest standard of care for every child.
  • To prepare feeds for babies and children who have special nutritional needs.
  • To develop professional relationships with Rose ward, PHDU and PICU and other departments that are involved in the care of the child patient.
  • To communicate at a high level in the multi-disciplinary team, especially dietetics.
  • A keen interest in catering.

Working for our organisation

Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals joined Guy's and St Thomas' in February 2021 and is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To work in the SFU under the supervision and instruction of the SFU manager and Dietitians.
  • To follow detailed policies and procedures for the preparation of special feeds.
  • To undertake a training schedule to achieve competence in all areas of the diet service following the written instructions of the dietitian.
  • To make special formulas to a high degree of accuracy, according to dietitian prescription.
  • To be responsible for the safe use of equipment in the SFU.
  • Daily temperature record of the fridges, the freezers, and the Blast chiller.
  • To be actively responsible for the stock feeds and equipment in the SFU and Level 4 Milk Kitchen.
  • To help with incoming deliveries of orders and ensure correct storage, stock control and rotation.
  • To provide information to ward staff regarding queries about SFU procedures.
  • To liaise with other hospital departments to ensure the smooth running of the SFU.
  • To have a polite and helpful manner when dealing with members of the public and hospital staff.
  • To assist with daily cleaning duties.
  • To report any hazards in respect of the Health and Safety at Work policy.
Candidate Requirements

A dynamic individual who has the enthusiasm for working within a team to support the wider inpatient area. Candidates must have a reliable work record and the desire to learn and further develop their skills.

  • Self-motivated, good IT skills.
  • Able to pay great attention to detail and have the ability to work under pressure providing high standards of care.
  • Great communication skills, punctual, smart appearance, professional and polite.
