Post Ref: CC512
Please note: Internal at risk or redeployee applicants will be seen in the first instance.
The SEN team complete the Education Health and Care (EHC) plan needs assessment process in line with the ‘Children and families act 2014’, and the ‘Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) 0-25 years code of practice’. We review the EHC plan on an annual basis.
We provide schools with advice and guidance on the procedures adopted, statutory rights of appeal, admission arrangements; and any other issues arising out of the assessment of a child's needs. We provide parents with a key point of contact opportunities to discuss progress and provision, details of their rights of appeal, signposting to other appropriate services and more.
Our SEN Caseworkers work closely with stakeholders (parents, schools, Health, Social Care and other disability professionals) to ensure that children and young people with SEN and disabilities have appropriate EHC Plans.
They read and dissect information following Annual Reviews to feed into amendments using SEN knowledge to write up Amended EHC Plans accordingly.
They co-ordinate phase transfer processes under the guidance of SEN Officers (children and young people transitioning from Nursery to Reception, Year 2 to 3, Year 6 to 7 and Year 11 to Post 16 education). They contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service aswell as contribution to corporate project-based activities, providing flexible professional input to national and local initiatives as required.
The prime objective of the post is to assist the Local Authority in carrying out the statutory duties in relation to the SEND process. Therefore, the ideal candidate would have existing knowledge of the Children & Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015 (0–25) from day 1, and will equally be motivated to develop this knowledge through working practice.
The Team works closely with the young people and their families, so a family friendly approach to working practice along with a confidence and commitment to making legally sound decisions on behalf of the Local Authority is essential.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. Applicants to posts that are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act will require a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed.

Closing Date: Thursday 14th August 2025
