Job summary

Applitrack seeks a Special Educational Aide to support planning and implementing academic activities tailored to individual student needs. You will work as part of a team of educators to create curriculum and document progress.

The role involves assisting with assignments, providing feedback on student progress, and ensuring a safe, respectful learning environment. Experience with students in educational settings is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience working with students in an educational setting.
• Ability to support reading, writing, and mathematics activities.
• Competencies include CPR, First Aid, and driving license where required.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in the planning and implementation of academic activities that meets the individual needs of the student. Works as part of a team of educators to create and produce curriculum for students. Responsible for regular notes that reflect the academic and interactive progress of students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

COORDINATES:

• Assessment testing for newly admitted students
• Support and encouragement to students in assisting them in learning and completing assignments
• Feedback on students in the daily milieu
• Documents students' progress on a regular basis
• Other duties as assigned

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

• Assist classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional and behavioral objectives.
• Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned teacher.
• Assist with behavior modification as assigned by teacher.
• Lift, move, and operate adaptive equipment (as needed)
• Assist students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
• Escort students as assigned by teacher or administrator.
• Assist students with mobility needs such as, lifting and positioning students, lifting in and out of wheelchairs; escorting students in and around the school and on field trips (as needed).
• Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
• Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher, therapist or pathologist.
• Report student concerns directly and expeditiously to teacher and assist with student resolution.
• Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, including clean-up.
• Maintain various records and files.
• Perform related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES REQUIRED:

Experience:

• Successful experience working with students
• Previous experience with children in a professional educational setting.
• Ability to plan and carry out activities for students that promote cooperative, support interactions.
• Experience or training implementing behavior support with Special Education students.
• COMPETENCIES: CIP, CPR, First Aid, Valid Texas Driver's License, annual required staff development

REQUIREMENTS:

• Paraprofessionals must have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and meet one of the following requirements:
• Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (defined as completion of 48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) of college coursework or an applicable number of semester hours as defined by the institution of higher education attended, whichever is less;
• Possess an associate (or higher) degree;or
• Meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a local academic assessment—
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or
  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Duties involve walking, sitting, standing, in-door, and out-of-door activities and some lifting.
• Must have and maintain a level of general physical/emotional health which permits effective performance of duties.
• Regularly lifts and carries 1 - 25 pounds.
• Required high level of mental alertness and requires ability to tolerate high levels of stress.
