Nature is declining across Hampshire, but local communities can play a powerful role in helping wildlife recover and thrive.

As our new Space for Nature Communities Officer, you’ll support 20+ Greening Communities across Hampshire to take practical action for nature through the Greening Campaign’s tried‑and‑tested Space for Nature programme.

You’ll help communities understand, map and improve the habitats they already have, and support them to create new spaces for nature. You’ll also support communities to bring households on board, creating networks of wildlife‑friendly gardens that provide food and shelter for wildlife across the whole community.

Working alongside our Greening Campaign community groups, you’ll help them identify opportunities, overcome barriers, organise activities and turn ideas into action. You’ll bring your own nature expertise where it’s useful, while supporting each community to develop and deliver a plan that works for their local area. Just as importantly, you’ll help them recognise and celebrate what they achieve.

This is a community-facing role. You’ll attend meetings and events across Hampshire, build relationships with a wide range of people, and make sure different voices and perspectives are included. We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for nature and the environment, who also understands how to engage and work alongside communities to make change happen.

About the Greening Campaign

The Greening Campaign CIC is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company working with local Hampshire communities to mitigate and adapt to climate change. We are proud to be Hampshire County Council's flagship community climate change programme, currently working across 20 communities to deliver meaningful, lasting change.

Our programmes focus on five key areas:

  • Space for Nature
  • Health Impacts of Climate Change
  • Energy Efficient and Warmer Homes
  • Cycle of the Seed

We have delivered positive outcomes for people of all ages, including vulnerable individuals, with proven benefits including reductions in loneliness, anxiety and stress. We are now at a pivotal point — having recently secured a National Lottery grant, we are extending our programme and providing further in-person support.

About you
We’re looking for someone who:
  • has a passion for and experience improving space for nature and the ability to understand how to support/improve different habitats
  • is able to engage and inspire communities
  • can build positive relationships with colleagues- this role has regular contact with other partners within the Greening Campaign programme, so cross programme coordination is essential
  • is well organised and practical with good time management skills
  • has a driving license and access to a car
  • is willing to work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends
What We Offer
  • A meaningful role in a growing and impactful community development programme
  • The opportunity to work with a passionate, proactive and dedicated small team
  • 25 days annual leave plus public holidays (pro rata)
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to communities and nature across Hampshire
