Job summary

Compass Group UK & Ireland Head Office in Birmingham is seeking a passionate Sous Chef for a Monday–Friday role (6am–3pm shifts). Join the 14forty team in a fast-paced environment, assisting the Head Chef with high-quality, chef-led dishes and menu development.

You will support breakfast and lunch service, lead by example, and help maintain food hygiene, stock control, and junior staff development in a busy corporate kitchen setting.

Qualifications

• Senior Chef de Partie or Sous Chef with quality-focused kitchen experience.
• Love for nourishing and exciting food with modern techniques and bold flavours.
• Strong organisational skills and knowledge of rotas and stock.
• Passion for developing others and leading by example.

Responsibilities

Working Pattern:Monday to Friday, shift patterns ranging from 6am to 3pm, flexibility required.
Salary:Up to £15.24 per hour, depending on experience

This role is perfect for a driven chef ready to help shape exceptional dining experiences while leading by example.

From fuelling early risers with crafted breakfasts to delivering a high-volume lunchtime offering in a newly refurbished restaurant at the business' head office, this role offers real variety. You'll support a skilled brigade of chefs, contribute to menu development, and bring consistency, energy, and attention to detail across busy service periods, hospitality, and events.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Head Chef in delivering food that’s full of flavour, consistency, and visual appeal across varied service formats, from wholesome grab and go to elegant plated dishes.
• Stay curious – help shape menus that celebrate quality ingredients and smart nutritional choices.
• Help foster a positive, high-performing kitchen culture where culinary standards are championed every day.
• Assist with ordering, stock control, and kitchen organisation to ensure smooth, efficient operations.
• Maintain best-in-class food hygiene and safety, with presentation that always feels considered.
• Support training, mentoring, and the development of junior chefs within the brigade.

What you’ll bring to the table

• A confident Senior Chef de Partie or Sous Chef with experience in quality-focused kitchens.
• A love for food that’s both nourishing and exciting, think modern techniques, bold flavours, and balanced plates.
• Strong organisational skills – you know your way around a rota, prep list, and stockroom.
• Passion for developing others, you lead by example and raise the bar
• A sharp eye for food safety, consistency, and detail.
• Knowledge of portioning, food cost and waste control, flavour should be smart as well as satisfying.
