Job summary

Jewish Care is seeking a dedicated Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in delivering nutritious, kosher meals for residents, service users, families and visitors. You will lead food preparation, presentation and food safety in a busy kitchen.

Working within a caring catering team, you will manage resources within budgets, mentor colleagues and ensure menus respect dietary, cultural and kosher requirements while contributing to events and excellent dining experiences.

Sous Chef – Responsibilities and Duties

The Sous Chef will support the Head Chef in delivering high-quality, nutritious and appetising meals for residents, service users, families and visitors at Jewish Care. Working as part of an established catering team, the postholder will oversee food preparation and presentation, maintain excellent food hygiene and health and safety standards, manage resources within agreed budgets, and help motivate and develop colleagues. The role also involves ensuring menus reflect individual dietary needs, cultural preferences and Jewish kosher requirements, while contributing to catering for events and maintaining an excellent customer experience. By combining culinary expertise with strong leadership and a compassionate approach, the Sous Chef will help create a welcoming dining environment where food contributes to residents wellbeing, dignity and quality of life. You will help deliver delicious, nutritious meals, inspire colleagues, maintain high standards and contribute to memorable dining experiences for residents and service users. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive and organized professional with experience in a busy kitchen, supervisory skills and a commitment to food safety, quality and value for money. An understanding of dietary needs and cultural requirements is important, and training in kosher kitchen practices is available.
