Sous Chef

Contract: Professional Services, Production & Technology

Hours of work: 37.5

Working Pattern: Monday - Friday 07:00 - 15:00

Contract Type: Permanent

Hourly Rate: £14.85

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our catering team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting meals to a high standard while ensuring food safety, hygiene, and customer satisfaction. Working closely with the Catering Manager and wider kitchen staff, you will help deliver a consistently excellent dining experience.

The Role

• Prepare and cook meals in line with menus, dietary requirements, and portion control standards.
• Maintain high levels of food hygiene, health, and safety in accordance with company policies and statutory requirements.
• Assist in menu planning, stock control, and ordering supplies to ensure efficiency and minimise waste.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide a smooth and professional catering service.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is used safely, cleaned regularly, and maintained in good working condition.
• Support the Catering Manager in implementing food service standards and improving customer experience.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior staff, promoting teamwork and best practice.

About You

• Proven experience working as a Chef in a commercial or institutional catering environment.
• Strong knowledge of food preparation, presentation, and portion control.
• Understanding of food hygiene, allergens, and health and safety requirements (Level 2 Food Safety Certificate desirable).
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing demands.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• A positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality food and service.
