Job summary

Avery Healthcare Group in Camberley is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and lead a culinary team in delivering nutritionally balanced, high-quality meals for residents at Camberley Woods Care Home.

You will prepare modified diets, supervise staff, maintain hygiene standards, and help implement the Avery Food safety management system. A City & Guilds NVQ or equivalent and at least 1 year of catering experience are required, with a flexible approach to cover shifts.

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant catering qualification (City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent).
• Have a minimum of 1 year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high-quality catering for residents.
• Be adaptable and flexible to cover varied duties at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Prepare modified diets that are appealing and within IDDSI guidance.
• Supervise and direct culinary staff per Head Chef directives.
• Follow safe food handling to meet hygiene standards.
• Support the team in applying Avery Food safety management system.

Job description

Your focus as Sous Chef will be to support the head chef in leading a culinary team that provides a nutritionally balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality culinary service, which contributes to the overall well-being of the residents and is achieved within budget. Other responsibilities will include:

• Preparing modified diets that look appealing and are well-balanced and in accordance with IDDSI guidance.
• Supervising and directing the work of culinary staff, as directed by the Head Chef, providing instruction and demonstration to unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities.
• Understanding the principles of safe food handling to ensure that all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen meets the highest hygiene standards.
• Supporting all culinary team members in fully understanding the Avery Food safety management system. To be successful in your application, you must live our values of caring, support, honesty, respect, and accountability in all that you do.
