Job summary

Avery Healthcare Group is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef to support the Head Chef at Greenholme House Care Home in Burley in Wharfedale. You will help lead a culinary team, deliver nutritionally balanced meals, and manage kitchen activities within budget.

You will prepare modified diets per IDDSI, supervise staff, ensure high hygiene standards, and support the food safety system. The role requires compassion, flexibility for short-notice coverage, and a commitment to exceptional resident

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant catering qualification (706/1/706/2 or NVQ or equivalent).
• Minimum 1 year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high-quality culinary services for residents.
• Be adaptable and flexible to cover a range of duties at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Prepare modified diets that are appealing and balanced per IDDSI guidelines.
• Supervise and direct the work of culinary staff under the Head Chef.
• Ensure safe food handling and hygiene to meet high standards.
• Support the culinary team in Avery Food safety management system.

Job description

Your focus as Sous Chef will be to support the head chef in leading a culinary team that provides a nutritionally balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality culinary service, which contributes to the overall well-being of the residents and is achieved within budget. Other responsibilities will include:

• Preparing modified diets that look appealing and are well-balanced and in accordance with IDDSI guidance.
• Supervising and directing the work of culinary staff, as directed by the Head Chef, providing instruction and demonstration to unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities.
• Understanding the principles of safe food handling to ensure that all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen meets the highest hygiene standards.
• Supporting all culinary team members in fully understanding the Avery Food safety management system.

Our ideal candidate must:
