Job description

Job Description

Sound, Video and Broadcast Project Support Engineer - Covent Garden

Fixed term contract for 18 months, available from July 2025

Up to £50,000 per annum based on skills and experience

Based in: Covent Garden, London

Full time; 40 hours per week

The Royal Ballet and Opera continues to lead in opera, ballet, music, and dance through live performances and digital platforms, including live streaming and cinema screenings. Our Covent Garden theatre has been central to London's and Britain's cultural scene for three centuries. We host two world-class companies: The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera.

We are undertaking a major programme to upgrade our estate's energy, sustainability, infrastructure, and individual projects to enhance our working environment.

The technical estate, installed in 1999, is aging and being modernized through the Technical Estate Renewal Team. This multiyear upgrade includes new stage machinery, lighting, sound, video, and broadcast systems, coordinated with operational schedules.

This newly created Project Support Engineer role will assist in developing, maintaining, and optimizing upgraded SVB systems and infrastructure. The focus is on establishing effective processes for system administration and servicing, with legacy systems adopting these practices over time.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Experience supporting SVB systems in large-scale professional theatre environments.
  • Familiarity with IP-based communication systems; hands-on experience with Riedel Communications Artist & Bolero equipment is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of media-focused IP networks.
  • Understanding of current SVB technologies and emerging trends.
  • Experience supporting complex SVB and IT infrastructure projects, especially during handover phases.
  • Ability to develop and implement asset management and maintenance processes.

The Royal Ballet and Opera are committed to diversity and inclusion. We especially welcome applications from individuals of a global majority background and/or those who are disabled, as they are underrepresented. We guarantee interviews for disabled applicants meeting minimum criteria.
