Join Our Technical Team – Sound and Light Technician

Exmouth Pavilion

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re seeking a skilled Sound and Light Technician to become a key part of our team at Exmouth Pavilion. In this dynamic position, you’ll ensure the highest standards of technical support for a wide variety of live performances, events, and activities. Your expertise will help maintain and develop all sound, lighting, and technical systems, making a real impact on our busy venue’s success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and operate all technical aspects of live events, including sound, lighting, and AV systems, to a professional standard.
  • Oversee the maintenance, servicing, and safe storage of technical equipment and infrastructure.
  • Contribute to a safe and compliant working environment for staff, visiting companies, and audiences.
  • Run the technical operation of the main auditorium and support events in other venue spaces such as gardens and café bars.
  • Liaise with visiting artists, promoters, and companies to plan and deliver technical requirements efficiently.
  • Operate lighting desks, sound desks, and technical equipment during rehearsals, performances, and events.
  • Supervise and support freelance crew and casual technical staff to maintain high presentation standards.
  • Work with management to uphold health and safety standards and ensure everyone’s safety in performance spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing conditions, venue regulations, and all relevant legislation.
  • Keep technical documentation, risk assessments, and equipment inventories up to date.
  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of technical upgrades and improvements for the venue.
About You
  • Minimum two years’ experience in live event production.
  • Strong working knowledge of stage lighting systems and professional PA/sound systems.
  • Practical understanding of rigging and other theatrical or live event technical equipment.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems and fault-finding.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
  • Outstanding communication and team leadership skills, including delegation and supervision.
  • Calm under pressure, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of health & safety and licensing regulations.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required.
  • Desirable: At least two years’ experience in sound and lighting engineering in live environments; IPAF MEWP licence or equivalent; first aid training or willingness to undertake training; experience in maintaining and upgrading technical systems in a venue setting.
