Job description
Overview

The current opportunity is available for current Manchester Met students, to apply you must be based in the UK for the duration of the role. A sound designer is required to record an interview in person in January 2026. The interview is a conversation between two academics and will take place on Sunday 11 January in Malvern. The interview will be for one hour, with 30 minutes to set up, and 30 minutes to take down at the end. It will take place between 12pm (midday) and 2pm. There is an additional fee to cover return travel by train from Manchester to Malvern. You will be paid for your travel time, your work at the interview, and for delivery of the digital audio files. Travel expenses cover one off‑peak day return by train from Manchester to Malvern. There will be an online briefing for this role on Friday 12 December for the successful candidate.

Deliverables
  • 1 x audio file (high quality wav or aiff) of the complete interview, delivered digitally.
  • No editing is required.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with sound recording equipment (eg. zoom recorders)
  • Experience handling microphones for good quality audio.
  • Proficiency with file formats, exporting and converting audio for delivery.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical difficulties on‑site.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience recording live interviews.
  • Experience working with interviewees.
  • Interest in Slavic studies, history or modern languages.
