Job Summary

Join our team to experience a new, mischievous, female-led, out-of-the-box Christmas Show. We are seeking a Sound & AV Technician/Operator to mix & operate this year's Christmas Show at Junction Goole.

Job Description

Our ideal candidate will have broad experience of technical theatre covering many Sound & AV aspects. The post holder will have professional experience in theatre production; knowledge of LIVE SOUND MIXING AND RADIO MICS, experience in working collaboratively with directors, designers, and other theatre departments; and will have knowledge of environmentally sustainable practices.

You will be part of a team of two: one Stage Manager/Lighting and yourself on Sound & AV. The script references you and performers will talk to you directly during the shows, so be ready for some christmassy nonsense!

We are envisioning candidates will be based locally and/or have a vehicle. We like to work with locals and we encourage candidates from nearby (York, Doncaster, Hull...), but we are open to receiving applications from candidates elsewhere if you can cover your own accommodation/per diems.

DATES:

  • Read through on Monday 17th November
  • w/c 1st December for Tech Week in Goole
  • TBC Dress Rehearsal 8th or 9th December
  • 2 shows per day from Wed 10th Dec to Wed 31st December - 25th & 26th December are days off
  • Get-out: 2 or 3 days of work between 6th and 9th January, to be agreed

FEE:

  • Break down: £725/week (all inclusive, including read through on 17th November)
Job Requirements
  • You will learn the show, and press GO!
  • You will be riding/mixing live singing and speech. No instruments, but you will trigger backup music on QLab.
  • You will deliver basic mixing for every show and you will feel comfortable troubleshooting any live issues such as feedback, loose cables on performers mic packs, battery issues, etc
  • You will work with the Sound Designer and AV Designer to build the QLab Sound & AV files for operation.
  • You will read the room and actively listen to how audiences and performers play together. It is a Christmas show, there's booing & cheering, so be prepared as we need to maintain the artistic quality of the show, but allow space for audiences. Performers mention you at the tech booth and you are part of the playfulness too.
  • You will power up and power down daily, keeping Show Files and equipment safe.
  • You will make sure there are enough batteries on charge for the mic-packs, and /or put on charge any LED lights/props on stage.
Job Responsibilities
  • Attendance to the first read planned for Monday 17th November, if possible.
  • You will be given a 'Book' and cue sheets with the Sound & AV cues, and you must support the Stage Manager to update 'the Book' for Sound & AV cues, as required during Technical Rehearsals.
  • During Tech Week you will be adapting 'The Book' and updating cue-sheets for SOUND & AV.
  • You will support the fit up of sound. You will work collaboratively with the Production Manager and the Stage Manager helping to fill knowledge gaps and support where required.
  • During the run, you will be the performers' main point of contact for SOUND, and you will communicate with the producer, director and/or production manager if there are any relevant issues related to SOUND.
  • You must have a knowledge of Health & Safety (H&S) and ensure the run is delivered safely at all times, operating in line with current legislation.

Junction is Goole’s arts centre – a busy, welcoming space where creativity and community come together. We’re here to bring brilliant performance, participation and provocation to our town – from great nights out to hands-on experiences.
