Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Sonographer with a radiology background to join the Diagnostic Imaging Service in Gibraltar. This role involves working across a broad range of diagnostic imaging modalities, with a strong service that covers imaging patients from Neonatal to Geriatric, including individuals who have varying degrees of ability and understanding.

You will play a central role in providing high-quality care to patients referred from both the Gibraltar Public Health Service and private practitioners.

Gibraltar is a beautiful location to work in. It has aMediterranean climate, breathtaking landscapes, and beautiful beaches!

  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week plus out of hour’s on-call
  • Commencement would be as from 28/11/2025 for 12 months.
  • Salary would be from £49,649 to £57,559 pro rata based on experience.
Responsibilities
  • Provide imaging support across radiology modalities such as CT, fluoroscopy, theatre, mobiles, general radiography, and mammography.
  • Assess and justify examinations in line with IR(ME)R regulations.
  • Supervise and train radiographers, students, and radiography aides.
  • Deliver care to patients from neonatal to geriatric, often in acute and challenging clinical settings.
  • Exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in complex and unpredictable circumstances e.g. imaging in A&E and theatre during a multiple trauma situation
  • Participate in the department’s out-of-hours on-call rota, including A&E, theatre, and urgent CT.
  • Contribute to departmental audit, quality assurance, and governance programmes.
  • Support the development and delivery of a sonographer-led ultrasound service.
  • Perform imaging examinations at a consistently high technical and professional standard of work, and to evaluate the clinical quality of images produced having first assessed the clinical requirements and sought any guidance required when requests fall outside departmental protocol and/or personal experience.
  • Communicate sensitively with patients, families, and clinicians, including in situations involving distressing findings or bad news
  • Supervise Radiography students on placements, support ancillary staff. Required to work unsupervised during on-call
Qualifications
  • DCR or BSc in Radiography
  • HCPC registration
  • Minimum 4 years’ clinical experience, with at least 2 years in obstetric, gynaecological, and general ultrasound.
  • Evidence of CPD.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to mentor junior staff.
  • IT proficiency and familiarity with radiology systems (PACS/RIS).
