Job summary

Skipton Building Society is seeking a Solutions Architect with a passion for security to help shape the future of technology for our members. You’ll work as a core architect, designing end-to-end solutions across a complex tech landscape and embedding security by design.

You’ll modernise platforms, simplify architecture, and embed security into delivery, not bolt it on. This hybrid role offers three days in Skipton and two days remote, with collaboration across engineering, product, and risk

Qualifications

• Strong solution architecture experience for enterprise-scale tech solutions.
• Security-minded approach embedded in design and delivery.
• Knowledge of security controls across identity, data, cloud environments.
• Experience designing resilient, scalable architectures balancing risk and delivery.
• Familiarity with APIs, microservices, event-driven patterns, cloud platforms; Azure preferred.
• Proven ability to collaborate across business, technology, risk stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills to explain complex concepts.

This isn’t a traditional “security gatekeeper” role. You’ll work as a core Solutions Architect first, designing end-to-end solutions across a complex technology landscape—while bringing deeper expertise in security to ensure everything we build is secure, resilient, and trusted by design

You’ll play a key role in helping us modernise our platforms, simplify our architecture, and embed security into how we deliver technology—not bolt it on afterwards.

• Champion modern architecture approaches, including API-led integration, cloud-native design, and reusable platforms

We work in a hybrid way, balancing flexibility with collaboration. For this role, you'll typically spend three days a week in our Skipton office, with the remaining two days working from home.

What You’ll Need

• Strong solution architecture expertise with experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale technology solutions.
• Security-minded approach, embedding security principles throughout solution design and delivery.
• Knowledge of security controls across identity, data, cloud and modern technology environments.
• Experience designing resilient, scalable architectures that balance risk, usability and delivery outcomes.
• Familiarity with modern architecture patterns (APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, cloud platforms) Azure experienced preferred
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across business, technology, engineering and risk stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to explain complex concepts and support decision-making at all levels.
