Working within the project team alongside the appropriate product, BA, development, and testing functions, the Solutions Architect’s role is to understand the business and customer needs and translate these into application and infrastructure designs for products and services and internal business systems.

The Solutions Architect will also support the implementation team through the specification and implementation, ensuring successful implementation and delivery while adhering to the agreed architectural design and ensuring that the teams' squads have the right technical enablers for effective design, development, and delivery.

What you’ll be doing?

  • Creating the high and low-level solution design and architectures for the project to the business requirements
  • Acting as the design authority on the project ensuring adherence to architecture and design standards and the Target Architecture, taking direction from the Senior Architect or Chief Architect.
  • Align teams in a shared technical direction towards the delivery of the project outcome
  • Ensure that the project level architecture implemented meets the project business objectives and technical requirements
  • Ensure a well-defined set of requirements exist to support the architecture creation process, a prerequisite being that the requirements have been agreed with the business
  • Participate in planning, definition and high-level design of solutions, sub-systems and interfaces, ensuring that alternative approaches are explored to the greatest reasonable extent
  • Participate in defining high-level functional and non-functional requirements, understanding the solution context and working with the project team, business stakeholders and customer groups to ensure it is fit for purpose
  • Support and govern the implementation team as required throughout development, and ensure the successful delivery and successful operations of the solution
  • Assess the economic impact of design decisions related to applications, interfaces and infrastructure
  • Work alongside the project team to ensure that any enabling technologies (e.g. support for prototyping, tooling and compliance) are defined and implemented
  • Ensure that the relevant security and compliance considerations are applied to solution design and implementation, providing advice to the project team in these areas where necessary
  • Serving as the point of escalation for solution-related architecture matters within the project
  • Review changes, proposals and designs to ensure compliance with roadmaps, standards and principles

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience in solution architecture, software development, or IT infrastructure
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Strong knowledge of microservices, APIs, DevOps, CI/CD, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience of defining and delivering complex application and infrastructure projects, including cloud based applications
  • Experience of designing solutions incorporating cloud components, including PaaS and SaaS solutions
  • Strong organisation and planning skills, including judgement as to the level of forward planning needed to balance emergent with under-pinning architectural decisions
