Armstrong Talent Partners is seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the design of complex managed infrastructure and cloud solutions for MSP/CSP contexts. This is a customer-facing role bridging presales, onboarding and delivery, owning designs from early engagement through handover, ensuring robustness, commercial viability and alignment with our platforms.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect to join our architecture function and lead the design of complex managed infrastructure and cloud solutions.

This is a customer-facing role that sits between presales, onboarding, and delivery. You will own solution design from early customer engagement through to delivery handover, making sure every solution is technically robust, commercially viable, and aligned with our platforms. You will take ownership of engagements from an early stage and drive design forward with customers, Sales, the Lead Architect, delivery, and operations.

This is a permanent, full-time position based on-site at our Hamilton office, three days a week as a minimum, with occasional travel to customer sites and data centres.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Designing Customer Solutions

• Leading customer design and onboarding workshops
• Gathering and refining technical and business requirements, and translating them into clear architectural solutions
• Producing high-quality High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and project artefacts that are practical, supportable, and buildable
• Ensuring designs align with our service offerings and standards

This is not a pure presales role, but you will be involved early in the customer lifecycle:

• Supporting Sales colleagues in technical discussions with customers
• Shaping solutions that meet customer needs within commercial and service constraints
• Contributing to proposals, solution descriptions, and technical responses, making sure what we propose can be delivered and supported

Owning Design Through Handover

You will act as the design authority as work moves into delivery:

• Clearly documenting assumptions, dependencies, and constraints
• Working with delivery teams so designs are understood and buildable
• Providing clarification and guidance during implementation

Working Across the Platform Portfolio

Your designs may span several service areas, and you will work with the Lead Architect to keep them aligned with evolving platform standards:

• Compute platforms (shared, dedicated, and private)
• Storage services (file, block, and object)
• Networking and connectivity services
• Backup, archive, and disaster recovery
• Security controls and managed security services

What We’re Looking For:

Experience

• Significant experience designing infrastructure and cloud solutions in a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or Cloud Services Provider (CSP) environment
• Broad technical experience across compute, storage, networking, backup, and disaster recovery
• Experience owning end-to-end solution design rather than isolated components
• Strong awareness of operational and Day-2 considerations, and a pragmatic approach to balancing technical quality, commercial reality, and operational constraints
• A self-starter, comfortable progressing work independently without detailed instruction
• Comfortable using AI-assisted tools to support design and documentation, and willing to help drive their adoption within the team
• Confident, professional communicator, comfortable leading technical workshops and customer discussions
• Able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences
• Works closely with Sales, Architecture, Delivery, and Operations, and takes ownership of design outcomes
• Experience working with public sector or regulated customers
• Familiarity with security and compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, GDPR)
• Exposure to cloud, hybrid, or sovereign cloud platforms
• Experience working in environments focused on automation and platform standardisation
