Job description

Our client is an accounting and business software company. We're redefining how solution design works in an AI-first world.

We're building a new Solution Design capability within Domain Services, creating a profession that combines the strongest elements of business analysis, solution design and detailed product ownership. As a Solution Designer, you'll play a central role in shaping how ideas become scalable, reliable solutions that power products used by businesses around the world.

Working at the intersection of Product, Engineering and Architecture, you'll take agreed product outcomes and transform them into clear, coherent, traceable solutions that teams can build with confidence. You'll lead discovery, model complex business and technical processes, maintain living specifications and ensure solutions remain aligned from concept through to delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team at an early stage, helping define new ways of working, influence best practice and shape the future of solution design at our client.

*** Please note that this role is hybrid and will require you to work 3 days a week from our Newcastle office. ***

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead detailed discovery activities to build a deep understanding of customer needs, business processes, constraints, dependencies and outcomes.
  • Translate product intent into clear, end-to-end logical solutions covering journeys, workflows, services, business rules, integrations, APIs, data flows and operational considerations.
  • Facilitate collaboration across Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Compliance, Support and other specialist teams.
  • Create and maintain detailed, versioned specifications, acceptance criteria and decision records that provide a trusted source of truth throughout delivery.
  • Identify risks, assumptions, dependencies and impacts early, helping teams make informed decisions.
  • Ensure accessibility, operational readiness, support requirements, audit needs and failure scenarios are considered from the outset.
  • Work closely with engineering teams throughout development, evolving specifications as new learning emerges.
  • Use AI-powered tools to accelerate discovery, analysis, modelling and documentation while maintaining accountability for accuracy, quality and decision-making.
  • Contribute reusable patterns, knowledge assets and best practices that strengthen the wider Solution Design community.
What We're Looking For

We're open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. You may have worked as a Business Analyst, Solution Designer, Product Owner, Service Designer or in a similar role where you've been responsible for turning complex requirements into clear, deliverable solutions.

  • Experience leading analysis and discovery activities from initial concept through to successful delivery.
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bring diverse viewpoints together and create shared understanding.
  • Experience creating detailed specifications, requirements, workflows, process models and acceptance criteria.
  • The ability to model end-to-end solutions across processes, services, integrations, data flows and operational considerations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the confidence to navigate ambiguity and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Experience working closely with Product Managers, Architects, Engineers and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Understanding of APIs, integrations, logical data design and service-oriented solutions.
  • The ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An appreciation for accessibility, operational readiness, supportability, compliance and risk management.
  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to challenge constructively, ask questions and continuously improve ways of working.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working in fintech, banking, payments, financial services, tax, compliance or related domains.
  • Experience working on platform capabilities, shared services or backend-focused products and services.
  • Exposure to migration programmes, large-scale integrations or data-intensive initiatives.
  • Experience using AI-assisted tools to support discovery, analysis, modelling or documentation activities.
  • Knowledge of SaaS, cloud-based platforms or enterprise software environments.
Why Join Us

This is a chance to join a growing team at a pivotal moment.

You’ll help shape an evolving profession, influence how solution design is practised in an AI-first environment and work on complex platform capabilities that support products across our client. You’ll collaborate with experienced product, engineering and architecture teams while helping establish standards, approaches and reusable patterns that will scale across the organisation.

If you enjoy solving complex problems, turning ambiguity into clarity and building solutions that make a meaningful impact, you’ll find plenty of opportunity here.

We believe diverse perspectives lead to better outcomes. We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds and experiences, and we’re more interested in the evidence of what you’ve achieved than the title you’ve held previously.

Benefits?
  • Generous bonuses and pension scheme: Up to 8% matched pension contribution plus 2% top-up by our client.
  • 25 days of paid annual leave with the option to buy up to another 5 days.
