Operational Support Systems (OSS) & Tools is a newly formed functional unit in the Network Product domain at Barclays. The Barclays OSS & Tools Engineering team is responsible for the design, build, and operation of the underlying OSS infrastructure and toolchain across cloud, data center, campus, and branch networks required to run the Barclays Global Network at scale.

To be successful as a Solution Architect, you should possess the following skill sets:

Essential Skills

• Experience in designing and implementing solutions for orchestration and activation of resources/services using industry-standard catalog models like YANG, TOSCA, HEAT templates, YAML-based automation such as Ansible.
• Knowledge of processes (ITIL, ETOM, TMF SID, OpenAPI, ETSINFV or similar) across network domains and experience designing solutions using open-source tools for lifecycle management of complex networks (experience with projects like Netbox, ODL, Grafana stack, ONAP/OSM, and other Linux Foundation projects).
• Understanding of network technology fundamentals, data structures, scalable system design, and the ability to translate information into structured solutions for wider product and engineering teams.

Desirable Skills

• Knowledge of DevOps tools, GitOps, CI/CD, configuration management, Jenkins, build pipelines, and source control systems. Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure services: compute, storage, networking, hybrid connectivity, monitoring/logging, security, and IAM.
• Programming experience in high-level languages like Python, Java, Golang, and experience with NetDevOps automation and AI engineering (GenAI/AgenticAI), API service development.
• Proficiency in Agile methodologies such as Scrum/Kanban, backlog, and workflow management.

Purpose of the Role

To design, develop, and implement solutions to complex business problems, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, and creating solutions that balance technology risks against business delivery, driving consistency.

Accountabilities

• Design and develop solutions as products that can evolve, meeting business requirements aligned with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling, including identification and implementation of technologies and platforms.
• Apply workload placement strategies to maximize cloud benefits such as elasticity, serverless, and containerization.
• Incorporate security principles into design, such as defense in depth and reduction of blast radius, meeting the bank’s resiliency standards.
• Balance risks and controls to deliver business and technology value.
• Utilize standard solutions where possible and contribute to their evolution when necessary.
• Support operational teams with fault finding and performance troubleshooting using available tools.
• Assess solution design impacts in terms of risk, capacity, and cost, including project change and ongoing run costs estimation.
• Develop architecture artifacts to comply with governance, privacy, security, and records management policies.
