The Novel and Compound facility Glass, part of the Zepler Cleanrooms at the University of Southampton, is creating the next generation of advanced materials for optical, photonic, and electronic applications.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant team developing lithium-doped glass fibre materials for use in solid-state batteries (SSB) alongside industrial partners, Morgan Advanced Materials Ltd. The role involves close collaboration with industry to apply research findings in state-of-the-art battery prototypes. The position is based at the University of Southampton, ranked in the top 1% of world universities, within the renowned Optoelectronics Research Centre, known for optical fibre technologies.
Facilities include advanced cleanroom technologies, with full training and support provided. The role offers career development opportunities and participation in research training events. Candidates should have proven laboratory experience, the ability to plan and demonstrate progress, and a degree in a science-related field or equivalent industry experience. Knowledge of material synthesis and glass fabrication is desirable.
The work hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM, 35 hours per week. This role is ideal for an ambitious research technician eager to impact next-generation SSB technology.
