DAC Beachcroft is seeking a solicitor to join its Regulatory Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team in London. You will handle a busy caseload on regulatory matters, advise clients facing investigations, and contribute to business development while maintaining high professional standards.

The role offers exposure to high-profile cases across sectors, with opportunities for client contact, inquests, PACE submissions, and compliance advice, all within a collaborative national team.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years PQE in regulatory and/or commercially focused environment
  • Experience advising on regulatory investigations and prosecutions (police, HSE, local authorities, regulators)
  • Experience with inquests, witness interviews, PACE submissions, and compliance advice
  • Ability to develop business and build client relationships

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, professional, high-quality regulatory SHE services to clients
  • Act as client main contact and work within client protocols
  • Assist with business development incl. pitches, presentations and training events
  • Ensure accurate billing, WIP, and management information
  • Maintain awareness of other practice areas and internal networks
  • Continue technical knowledge via training and CPD

Solicitor - Regulatory SHE

Description

We are looking for a solicitor to join our market leading Regulatory Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team. You will have access to quality work, client contact and scope for business development.

Our national Regulatory Team specialise in advising organisations and individuals facing criminal investigation for corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter and breaches of regulatory law related to health and safety, fire safety, food safety and environmental law. We also provide advice in relation to product safety, advice and representation to clients involved in inquests and in Public Inquiries. We employ over 30 specialist lawyers across a number of key locations, where we are looking to expand due to client and case demands.

We are interested in candidates who have experience of advising clients dealing with regulatory issues such as investigations and action prosecutions by the Police, HSE, Local Authorities, Fire Authorities, Environment Agency, CQC and other regulators. The successful candidates would ideally have experience of inquests, interviewing witnesses, preparing PACE submissions to regulators, and providing advice to clients on compliance issues and related advice.

What you will do?

You are expected to provide a timely, professional and high-quality service to our clients. Depending on your role, and with the support of a partner or legal director you will be expected to:

  • Work on a busy and varied case load encompassing a range of contentious and non-contentious regulatory issues for a variety of clients.
  • Act as a point of contact for clients working in accordance with client protocols, demonstrating a level of knowledge and skill commensurate with experience.
  • Assist with business development activities including helping with the preparation and delivery of pitches, presentations and training events.
  • Demonstrate sound file management – to include compliance with DAC Beachcroft protocols and any client protocols as required; consistent and accurate billing and credit control; management of WIP and file closures; updating Management Information
  • Assume responsibility for quality control and benchmark compliance on your own caseload, including accuracy and timeliness of management reporting and information
  • Maintain an understanding of other practice areas and an active internal network
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements

Who you are

  • You will have at least 2 years PQE with experience gained within a regulatory and / or commercially focused environment, in private practice or elsewhere.
  • You will ideally have experience of advising on regulatory work including – HSE/Police investigations, witness interviews, interviews under caution, prosecutions, sentencing hearings and inquests. Experience of areas such as environmental breaches, trading standards, product safety, food safety and fire safety would also be beneficial. We will consider candidates with other relevant experience.
  • You will have experience of business development and building client relationships.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice in order to assist clients to manage situations on the ground as they happen.
  • Excellent legal drafting, analytical and technical skills.
  • Demonstrate ability and exceed budgetary requirements in terms of both time and fee income
