NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF

Our Office of the General Counsel advises on a wide variety of contentious and non-contentious risk issues that arise in the delivery of professional services across the areas of assurance, tax and advisory in which the firm operates.

We’re happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares. We’ll support you to balance your work and life.

A look into the role

As a lawyer specialising in contentious work within our in-house legal team, you will:

  1. Deal with a wide range of claims, issues and projects, including:

    • professional liability claims against the firm
    • regulatory issues, including dealing with regulatory enquiries and investigations
    • professional indemnity insurance
    • litigation, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods
    • other diverse risk-management issues
  2. Work closely with colleagues in our in-house legal team to deliver solution-focused and commercially pragmatic advice to Grant Thornton’s people, including partners and other senior stakeholders

  3. Instruct and manage outside solicitors, counsel and independent experts in disputes about professional services

This role may suit a litigator who is currently a junior or mid-level associate at a commercial law firm, but we are happy to consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary to fulfil the role.

Knowing you’re right for us

Joining us as a Solicitor, the minimum criteria are that:

  1. you are a qualified solicitor or barrister with substantial and demonstrable experience of commercial dispute resolution and procedure in England and Wales or another common-law jurisdiction

  2. you have a good working knowledge of law and procedure as they relate to professional liability, preferably in respect of professional advisers.

It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way:

  1. an understanding of the kinds of risk-management issues that professional services firms face

  2. a pragmatic and commercial approach, with an ability to identify improvements to help achieve better outcomes and prevent problems from occurring

  3. a self-starting attitude and the ability to manage conflicting demands

  4. an ability to present information clearly and persuasively orally and in writing

  5. an ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams, and to work both autonomously and collaboratively as appropriate

  6. an ability to build good relationships and gain the confidence of colleagues
