Solicitor - Newly Qualified (Criminal)

We are delighted to be working with a well-established law firm in County Down to recruit a Newly Qualified Criminal Solicitor. This is an exciting opportunity to join a reputable firm that has built a strong reputation in criminal law, providing expert defence services for clients facing a range of charges, from minor offences to serious criminal allegations. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for criminal defence work and a commitment to delivering outstanding client service.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Case Management: Handling a varied caseload of criminal defence matters, including police station representation, Magistrates' Court, and Crown Court cases, ensuring all processes are managed efficiently and effectively.
  2. Client Representation: Advocating for clients facing criminal charges, offering strategic legal advice, and ensuring their rights are protected at every stage of the legal process.
  3. Court Advocacy: Attending court hearings, presenting legal arguments, and working alongside barristers and counsel where necessary.
  4. Legal Documentation: Preparing and reviewing key legal documents, including defence statements, mitigation submissions, and case summaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  5. Liaison: Engaging with key stakeholders such as police officers, prosecutors, barristers, forensic experts, and witnesses to build strong defence cases.
  6. Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring all legal work complies with the regulatory standards set by the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
  7. Continuous Development: Keeping up to date with developments in criminal law, sentencing guidelines, and legal precedents to provide the best representation for clients.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland (newly qualified candidates are encouraged to apply).
  2. Experience in criminal law through training, work placements, or post-qualification experience.
  3. Strong understanding of criminal law procedures, defence strategies, and court processes.
