Drafting Planning Agreements

Deliver high-quality legal advice and services to Directorates and Corporate Services, including drafting documents and legal agreements, to ensure policy formulation and operational decisions are based on sound legal grounds.

Undertake negotiations to protect and further the objectives of the Council, and, where necessary, undertake litigation and advocacy in courts, tribunals, statutory appeals, and inquiries.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Participate in project teams to ensure the achievement of the Council's objectives and the delivery of high-quality legal advice to client services, departments, and contractors.
  2. Demonstrate concise and assertive communication and negotiation skills, both oral and written, including excellent drafting skills. Ability to communicate effectively with management, officers, councillors, members of the public, and court officers.
  3. Experience in Criminal Litigation, Civil Litigation, Advocacy, Planning, Environment and Highways, Adult Social Care, Children Social Care, or Education as required by the role.
  4. Experience working within a legal practice or in-house legal department.
  5. Identify, research, and anticipate the effects of new legal developments on service provision to ensure best practices in delivering timely and responsive services.
  6. Provide legal and procedural advice and training to Members, client services, departments, and contractors to facilitate effective policy and operational decisions.
  7. Perform any other duties necessary to fulfill the full scope of the role.
