Solicitor 1-4 years PQE – Large loss, HSE Regulatory and Crime
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Keoghs' Scottish large loss, HSE regulatory, and crime team as an assistant. The role offers involvement in interesting and varied cases, including EL/PL/RTA large loss, and HSE regulatory and crime cases.
The successful candidate will assist Partner Laurie Traynor with her complex, high-value, and sometimes high-profile caseload, as well as managing their own files. This includes assisting on fatal and catastrophic cases, often from inception to conclusion.

The role is suitable for someone with 1-4 years PQE. Experience in defender litigation, crime, and advocacy is preferred but flexibility is possible for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with the Partner on complex and high-value claims
- Drafting pleadings and court documents
- Obtaining and drafting witness statements
- Forensic review and analysis of relevant documents assessing liability, quantum, and causation in civil claims
- Drafting technical advice on all aspects of claims for sophisticated insurer clients and keeping them updated
- Preparation and lodging of productions
- Organising, attending, and drafting notes of consultations with counsel, clients, and experts, and executing follow-up actions
- Liaising with experts— instructing own experts, summarising expert evidence, lodging reports
- Maintaining case management systems with up-to-date management information for clients
- Adhering to court deadlines and managing files according to client SLAs
- Delivering performance targets and quality standards
- Attending site visits, meeting clients, drafting statements, and taking photographs
- Civil, criminal, and FAI advocacy
- Instruction and attendance at court with counsel, drafting notes
- Reviewing medical records, post-mortem reports, and CCTV footage
- Analyzing criminal prosecution evidence, explaining implications and defense prospects to clients
- Liaising with Court, COPFS, Police/HSE/EHO, or relevant regulators
- Attending and representing at Police/HSE/EHO interviews
- Developing and training junior team members
- Managing own case load
- Developing client relationships to attract work
- Assisting in business development activities like drafting articles, blogs, e-shots, and presentations, and attending relevant events
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Qualified Solicitor
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience in large loss (EL/PL/RTA), HSE regulatory, crime, and fatal accident inquiries preferred but flexible
- Ability to handle clients sensitively
- Excellent communication skills
- Calm under pressure
- Self-confidence, good literacy, and IT skills
- Team player with flexibility to meet client needs
- Experience with time recording and case management systems preferred
Working hours
- 35 hours/week, Monday–Friday 9am–5pm, with 1 unpaid hour for lunch
- Part-time or flexible working options available
- One day a week in Glasgow office
